Please join me in supporting an extremely important cause to find a cure for diseases that impact more than six million Americans and their families, including someone important to me. If you know anyone who has been touched by spinocerebellar ataxias, ALS (Lou Gehrig’s), autism, Alzheimer’s, epilepsy, Huntington’s, Parkinson’s, depression, schizophrenia or other diseases resulting from a neurological disorder with a cerebellum component, you can make a difference for them by donating to a vital research program through the MINDlink Foundation’s Web site at https://www.mindlinkfoundation.org.
There you can learn about Dr. Jeremy Schmahmann, Professor of Neurology at Harvard Medical School and neurologist at the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, who is an award-winning leader on the cerebellum. His ground-breaking research holds the potential to help better understand, diagnose and treat a range of neurodegenerative diseases that now appear to have a cerebellar link.
Dr. Schmahmann needs private funding to maintain and grow the research team in his Laboratory for Neuroanatomy and Cerebellar Neurobiology. Federal funding is dedicated to very specific research projects and is not capable of supporting the new and innovative projects under way in the lab. According to Dr. Schmahmann, “Every week we receive requests from highly skilled scientists to join the lab, but there are insufficient funds. Imagine if we could say ‘yes.’” Answering the next generation of questions raised by Dr. Schmahmann’s research requires investigators at multiple levels of expertise and training. With your help Dr. Schmahmann can say “yes” and the work to find novel treatments and cures can continue.
Please log on to https://www.mindlinkfoundation.org to learn more about Dr. Schmahmann and his research, and to contribute to this extremely important cause. And, if you are as inspired by the promise of his research as I am, please send this email to your colleagues, friends and family. Thank you so much. You will make a real difference, and I greatly appreciate your consideration and support.
